Aging Dogs
The Senior Dog

Weimaraner Old Dog Health

Aging dogs require understanding and have greater needs than young dogs.

No one likes to see his dog get old.

While you may want to ignore your older dog’s health issues (and pretend that they don’t exist), it is important to pay attention to any symptoms that your dog shows.

A senior dog may start to show old dog health problems, including dog diabetes, arthritis, canine deafness or blindness.

In many cases, you can make your dog more comfortable and, you may even be able to stop the progression of a more serious illness (or reverse it).

Senior dogs still enjoy doing things with you.

Senior Weimaraner Dogs

A Weimaraner’s life expectancy is about 12 years, but a 7 year old Weim is considered to be a senior dog. And, since many Weinheimers remain active well into their early teen years, you may not realize that your dog is getting old…

With many dogs, aging is apparent because of a graying muzzle—in a Weimaraner that may not be so obvious…

  • Older Dog Incontinence - Unfortunately many older dogs do have trouble holding their urine. Here are some things that you can do to make things easier for both of you…

  • Dog Incontinence Products - If your dog has trouble with incontinence, there are products on the market that can help...

  • Dog Arthritis Signs - How do you know if your dog has arthritis? This should help you…

  • Canine Spinal Arthritis - What do the symptoms of canine spinal arthritis look like?

  • Dog Car Ramps - If your dog is having difficulty getting into the car, bed or boat, you might want to consider buying or making a dog car ramp for him…

  • Diabetic Dogs - What are the symptoms of canine diabetes and how does diabetes affect a dog?

  • Diabetic Dog Diet - If your dog has dog diabetes, what kind of diet should she be on?

  • Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs - How do you recognize that your dog is having heart problems?

  • Elevated Dog Dish - Should you consider an elevated dog dish for a Weimaraner? Why or why not?

  • Canine Deafness - Is your dog losing her hearing—or just not listening to you? How can you tell the difference?

  • Canine Blindness - How do you know if your dog is going blind or has reduced vision?

  • Dog Obesity - As dogs get older, they sometimes get fatter…

  • Is My Dog Fat - Is your dog overweight, normal or is there a medical problem?

  • Death of a Dog - When you lose a dog, you lose a friend. What should you do if your dog dies?

When your dog gets old, she will probably slow down and have greater needs. If you are patient and help your dog be more comfortable and help him with tasks he can no longer perform—you will still have many good times together.

Aging dogs, like aging people, still need our patience, love and affection…
