Brushing Dog Teeth

A Weimaraner Owner’s Guide
to Dog Tooth Brushing

Brushing dog teeth is essential to good Weimaraner grooming. One very essential part of grooming your Weimaraner is brushing dog teeth.

Dental care for dogs is just as important as human dental care is.

Dog dental products such as dog toothpaste, a dog toothbrush and a dog tooth flosser are available to aid you in brushing your dog’s teeth.

When you introduce dog tooth brushing, while your dog is still young, you are actually helping him lead a healthy life as he grows up.

Learning how to brush your dog’s teeth is not as difficult as it seems.

Dog Dental Products

We don’t use a toothbrush designed for humans, on dogs.
  • They have their own special dog toothbrush which ideally has an angled head and very soft bristles.
  • Dog toothpaste with flavors appealing on dogs should also be used. Using toothpaste for humans will only have an adverse effect on your dog’s stomach.

  • A dog dental flosser can also be used to further clean your dog’s teeth.Brushing Dog Teeth

  • Dog dental treats can be used to exercise gums and teeth and reduce tartar buildup.

Dog Tooth Brushing

First, you need to find the appropriate time to brush your dog. Brush your dog’s teeth when he is most relaxed, so you won’t have a hard time restraining him.

Talk to him while brushing to make him feel at ease with the process.

Lift his upper lips and start brushing his teeth and gums as gently as you can. Do this in a circular motion for at least ten to fifteen seconds.

Next, pull down his lower lip gently and start the same process. Do not forget to praise him when he cordially cooperates with you.

If this is your dog’s first dog tooth brushing time, you don’t have to complete the whole process. If he becomes fussy, end the session immediately. Do not overwhelm him with the activity. Remember that this should be a fun activity for the both of you.

Frequency of Dog Tooth Brushing

Brushing your dog’s teeth will help prevent plaque and tartar build up. It will also decrease your dog’s susceptibility to infections and other dental problems such as gingivitis and bad breath.

It is highly recommended that you do dog tooth brushing every day, if possible.

However, if you are just starting, you can do it once a week and increase the frequency when your dog becomes comfortable and at ease with the whole process.

Annual dental checkups are also important to maintain your dog’s dental health. Visit your veterinarian so he can see if there are problems and provide early treatment for them.

Brushing dog teeth can not only improve your dog’s teeth and gums but it can actually help him become a happier and livelier dog. Dental care for dogs is important for their health and well-being.

Serious health problems may result from lack of attention to your dog’s dental health. If you are genuinely concerned with your dog, you will do the best that you can to help him lead a healthy and happy life. Start by brushing your dog’s teeth now.
