There are some good dog incontinence products on the market for Weimaraners who have loss of bladder control.

While usually a problem in old age, canine incontinence can occur at any age in dogs.

Dog incontinence is a medical problem wherein urine leaks uncontrollably from your dog’s bladder caused by the loss of bladder control.

This urinary problem is often caused by endocrine disorders, congenital disorders, infectious diseases, tumors in the bladder, prostate, urethra, brain, spinal cord, or nerves, and trauma to the urethra, brain, spinal cord, or nerves, among others.

Exasperating as it may be for you as the owner; this condition can also bring much stress to your dog.

Fortunately, the availability of dog incontinence products has been proven to be a great help for this urinary problem.

Natural treatments
for Canine Incontinence

Once your pet has been diagnosed to have canine incontinence, you may resort to natural treatments.
  • Saw palmetto - is used to treat prostate cancer in human males. It will also work to treat your dog’s loss of bladder control. It can even reduce your dog’s risk for prostate cancer.
  • Pumpkin seeds - strengthen the bladder muscles, balances hormonal levels, and naturally cleanses your dog’s urinary tract.

  • Ooleuropein

Cranberries - also prevent bacteria from penetrating the lining of the bladder.

  • Cornsilk - is an herb commonly utilized to treat dogs with incontinence. It supports urinary muscle control and quicker emptying of the bladder.

  • Pet Alive UTI-Free - is a safe, non-addictive 100% natural homeopathic remedy registered with the FDA and formulated especially for pets to relieve frequent urination, bladder discomfort and dog urinary problems.

Medications for Dog Incontinence

There are various medications and dog incontinence products that are presently being used to treat canine urinary incontinence.

The most frequently used drug for treating bladder control loss in male dogs is phenylpropanolamine or PPA. This works to tighten the bladder muscles.

If PPA is unavailable, you may also try a synthetic form of estrogen called diethylstilbestrol or DES.

Imipramine may also be used a substitute for treating this medical problem. It is an antidepressant that causes urine retention in some patients treated with it.

Pseudoephedine has also similar effects with that of phenylpropanolamine but is not widely used

More Tips on Bladder Control Loss

Adjusting your dog's diet may also prevent loss of bladder control. Fresh foods and raw vegetables have been known to improve a dog’s condition and have also shown to be successful in treating dog incontinence.

You may also purchase dog bloomers or diapers with absorbent pads if your dog does not respond to the above treatments.

Treatment of dogs with incontinence normally depends on his age and the reasons for his incontinence. The treatment may be simple or you may need the help of a veterinarian.

There are many dog incontinence products to choose from to help you and your dog manage this medical problem.

Dog incontinence is more or less a lifelong condition so it is necessary that you treat your dog with kindness and understanding when she does lose control of her bladder. She’s possibly just as mortified as you.
