My Dog Chews Everything!

My 7 mo old dog literally chews on the house and my CAR!~!!!

He has chewed on the bumper of my car, the door facing of the house, the garage door, the garage door sensors, shoes, bowls, parts on a bike, etc.....

We never had this much trouble from our previous or current dog, which is a 7.5 yo lab.

Also, it tends to happen in the early morn before anyone gets up. Our dogs are free to run in and out of the garage all day but we keep them up at night.

The puppy doesn't whine about being put up but he gets bored or something in the morning, or is literally trying to get out to go potty.

Can anyone help me with this?

Redirecting our wiems insatiable chewing!

Weimaraner Chewing Binge

we noticed less chewing for our young weim after we began brushing her teeth more regularly. she also chewed less when we gave her a rope-chew.

we never gave our weims toys, so, at least our male seemed to recognize that chewing is for bones and food.

but also.....we noticed our female, who is the natural retriever out of the two, chews soft fluffy things. the dog whisperer had an eopisode about a hunting spaniel with the same issue. he said that it is instinct for bird hunters to seek the soft-mouthing feel in their mouths. (makes sense when looking at the fluff released from our leather couch). to consider this quality as an asset needs work....the trainer made a meat-smoothie in a blender and poured it into a sqeeze bottle. on every walk, he would stay the dog, and pour a line of meat smoothie, and then allow the dog to track its course with the treat reward. this was redirecting the hunting instinct.

next cesar milan spent time infront of the dog, with fluffy temptation items. when the dog chose non-edible items, cesar said his famous "shhht" & snap fingered a quiet "NO", and redirected the dogs attention to the actual food. the owner was concerned if this was considered rewarding the fluff temptation, but cesar stated it was part of the entire redirection effort. CHEWING IS ONLY FOR FOOD.

also, weims need off-leash wilderness time, as well as structured walks. try TWO walks of 45 minutes a day, EVERY day, and see how the chewing abates!!! Try agility classes too!
