Starving Weimaraner??

by Cathy
(Manitoba, Canada)

I just got a Weimaraner puppy 2 weeks ago. She is now almost 3 months old. I am feeding her 2 cups of dog food a day and she eats it soooooo fast.

I feel like I may be starving her, yet that's what it says to feed her on the back of the bag-- according to her age and weight (8 pounds).

How much do you recommend feeding her so she doesn't go hungry?

Oh, and it is one of the best foods for large breed puppies.

thanks
cathy

Your Weimaraner Puppy is Normal
by: Linda

Cathy, your Weimaraner puppy is doing exactly what dogs naturally do--gulping down his food. It's what dogs did in the wild--and most of them still do.

Your new puppy is not starving. Dog food companies spend millions of dollars doing research to see exactly which nutrients a puppy or dog needs, and exactly how much food they need.

When you follow the directions on the dog food, you are giving your new Weim puppy the right amount of dog food.

It would be a mistake to give him more, as you definitely don't want to have him get too fat. Heavy dogs are much more likely to have health problems like diabetes or heart disease.

A new Weimaraner puppy--just like a new baby--is a little scarey, at first. If you have never had a new puppy before, you're not quite sure what to do.

Have your vet check out your puppy, if you haven't done so yet. And just keep on doing what you're doing. You're doing fine...
