Canine behavior issues were the last thing on your mind when you got your new puppy or dog. But, the reality is that some dogs do develop behavior problems that need to be addressed.

Dog behavior problems are sometimes caused by faulty training by an inexperienced dog owner or occasionally, they are caused by a dog’s emotional issues.

Think again.  While puppy biting seems innocent enough, it can cause real aggression issues later.

Puppies who continue to bite people and other dogs unchecked easily grow to be adults with aggression problems.

We need to think ahead to see the damage that an adult Weimaraner can do to your ankles if he nips at them when he’s grown to be 50 pounds.  It’s not a pretty sight!

Fortunately there are ways to nip this problem in the bud.  All you need is a little knowledge about how to do it.

Is your Puppy Crying at Night?

Weimaraner puppies sleepingOf course you’re excited to get your new puppy!  And you’ve all had such a wonderful first day.

But, when night time comes, sometimes a puppy can be very lonely.  For his entire life, he has had his brothers, sisters and mom to snuggle up to during the night.

In his new home and unfamiliar bed, the night can be really long and really lonely.  So your puppy cries because he misses everyone.

You do understand this, but you can’t have the crying, as your family members need to go to work and school in the morning.

So how do you handle this?  Or, better yet, how do you make your puppy happy and comfortable so he doesn’t cry at all?

Submissive urination is an emotional issue in dogs.  We do see this issue sometimes in older dogs who have been adopted.  Perhaps due to treatment by a former owner.

Dogs who have this issue are not confident and they are often afraid of things like thunderstorms.

Dog Behavior Modification

However, for many behaviors, you can teach your dog to respond the way you want him to.  Firm but loving correction goes a long way in training dogs.

Weimaraners are rough and tumble, but they are also loving and sensitive.  That’s why we need to be careful with how we train and correct them.
