Fun Dog Games

Fun dog games are a great way to exercise your Weimaraner. And play with dogs can be as simple as a game of Frisbee.

Weinheimers are powerful dogs who need lots of exercise—and they need to exercise each and every day.  But, more importantly (for them, anyway), they love to run and play.

Fun dog games with your Weimaraner don’t have to be complicated; fun with dogs can be as simple as a game of retrieving sticks or playing with a new dog squeaky toy.

Fun dog games with Weimaraners
Weimaraners enjoy every minute outdoors, having fun with you!

Large dogs like Weimaraners crave your company, and they think it’s just great when you spend time together and play.

Taking walks together can be fun, but, sooner or later, you are both going to want to do something a little more exciting…

Exercise for Both of You

Let’s face it. Most of us need to get more exercise, and so does your Weimaraner. These strong, powerful dogs need to exert themselves every day to keep them healthy, to use up some of that pent up energy, and to keep them out of trouble.

Sedentary Weimaraners who are bored, tend to find ways to amuse themselves.  Ways that might not be so amusing to you.  To keep your Weimaraner out of trouble, you’ll need to keep him busy and tired, at times.

Here are some fun dog games and ways to play with your dog:

Dog Beaches

If you are fortunate enough to live near a beach that allows dogs, you can both have a great time at the beach! Or, plan to vacation near a beach and take your dog with you.

Weimaraners love to run free on a beach.  Many love to splash in the water and chase a toy.  And, whether you take your dog to a pond, lake or the ocean, you will both have lots of fun!

Dog Beach Safety Tips

Accidents sometimes happen in fun places, and the tips in this article will help keep your dog safe and out of trouble…

Fun Dog Games

Just about anything can become a game for your dog. If you are having fun playing catch, your dog will enjoy it too. Try hiding the toy or ball, or play catch with a friend or two and fake a throw, to see if your Weimaraner knows who has the ball.

Dog Agility Clubs

Weinheimers are perfect candidates for agility classes and agility clubs. They are smart, fast and strong. Running through an agility course is one of those fun dog games that they love! If you are just getting started with agility training, this Agility in the Bag kit is easy to set up and use. You’ll find yourself having fun, in no time! If you Weimaraner gets good at agility, you might want to enter her into some competitions.

Dog Party Games

A dog party for your Weimaraner is an ambitious undertaking. If you decide to throw a party, you’ll need to play dog games to keep the guests occupied. Keep in mind that you will need lots of space for the party games.

Dog Show Events

If you would like to get into showing dogs, you should decide this—even before you choose your puppy.  A Weimaraner show dog will need to have certain characteristics. Dog shows are not exactly fun dog games, but they can be enjoyable for both of you. Your dog will need to practice being disciplined and obeying your commands.

Toys for Weimaraner Dogs

Dog Tug Toys

These can be fun for both of you. A nice durable tug toy that is gentle on your dog but tough enough to handle lots of dog fun is the Tuffy Ultimates Tug-O-War Dog Toy, the “world’s toughest soft toy for dogs”.  See if you can beat your dog at this game!

Dog Toys for Strong Chewers

Many Weimaraners do not soft mouth toys. If your dog destroys toys quickly, you’ll need to consider some stronger toys like the KONG Extreme Dog Toy.  Put some treats or peanut butter inside this toy, and watch your dog solve the puzzle of how to get them.

Indestructible Dog Toys

Technically there may not be such a thing as an indestructible dog toy, but there are some pretty tough toys out there. The Goughnuts Indestructible Dog Toy comes pretty close, and it’s guaranteed to last, or you can get a replacement. I also like the Virtually Indestructible Best Ball for Dogs. It stands up to tough use with forceful chewers, and it’s 10” in diameter, making it too large to fit into your dog’s mouth. But, you can play fun dog games like “dog soccer” with it, or have your dog chase the ball.

Kong Dog Toys

These toys can keep dogs occupied for quite a while. They are especially interesting when you place a treat or peanut butter inside them. My favorite for large dogs is the KONG Extreme Dog Toy.

Dog Squeaky Toys

What is it about squeaky toys that dogs just love? It’s pretty common to see dogs who love their squeaky toys. The KONG Air Dog Squeaker Bone Dog Toy is tough enough to stand up to the most rigorous of fund dog games. Even with strong chewers, it often lasts for years.

Dog Dental Toys

Your dog’s toys might as well help clean her teeth—while she plays. The Nylabone Dura Chew Original Flavored Dental Dinosaur Chew Toy is great for large dogs (tough enough for them, too), and it has a cute dinosaur shape with lots of nubs to chew on.

Another great dental toy is the Nylabone Bacon Bone Dog Chew. Designed for powerful chewers, it even has a bacon flavor to make chewing more fun!

Dog Frisbee– Dogs and people have been playing Frisbee since I can remember. And playing Frisbee with your dog is still great fun. Unfortunately Frisbees typically get bent up and chewed after a few fun dog games, and they need to be replaced.

The Kong Flyer Disk was designed with large strong dogs like Weimaraners in mind. It flies straight and true, like a Frisbee, and it even floats. Best of all, even though it was not designed to be a chew toy, it is guaranteed to be durable.

Biking with Your Dog

Weimaraners love to go with you. Why not go biking together? If you go on back roads with few cars, it will be safer for both of you. The popular WalkyDog Dog Bicycle Exerciser Leash is easy to use and perfect for riding your bicycle with a large dog.

There are so many fun dog games and ways to play with your dog. These are just a few, and if you think about it, you will come up with many more.

The important thing to remember is that, your Weimaraner needs to get exercise and play every day. Finding fun dog games and creative ways to do that, will help you bond with your dog and enjoy life together!
